2.24 Thrifty Thursday - Make your own Mists!
Mini Mists
I love love love the look of mists on pages and the ability to cover stuff like doilies in color quickly and easily. What I don’t love- the cost. Most pre-made mists average $6 a bottle and if you are like me and love having lots of colors available for many of us it’s just not a viable option.
So when I saw Tim Holtz make his own mists using stuff I already owned I was hooked. Cheap, easy, endless color variations and using stuff many of us already have = winner.
Stuff you will need:
• Distress Ink Refill (or any stamp ink refill will work though I find some of them not as saturated). I buy them when they go on sale so they average around $2.50.
• A Mini Mister (They are sold in packs of 3 at most big box stores like Joann’s and Michaels' for $4 a pack)
• Water
Optional Stuff
• Perfect Pearls if you want to make glimmer mist.
• A Craft Sheet for easy cleanup
Instructions:
1. Add one dropper full of ink to an empty mini mister (If you want glimmer mist add one small pinch of perfect pearls)
2. Fill mister ¾ of the way full of water. Don’t fill them all the way or when you go to replace the sprayer part it will spill all over the place.
3. Replace the sprayer part (and cap If you added Perfect Pearls then shake it up)
4. Spritz!
Have fun and experiment by mixing inks to get different looks. You can also totally change the look of the spray depending on how close to the paper you hold the mister. Play with masks (see K's great tutorial on how to make your own https://creativesoup.forumotion.com/t933-203-thrifty-thursday-simple-homemade-masks), layer colors. just have fun!!!! (If you are worried about getting dirty just wear latex gloves. I do this all the time when I don't want to have to scrub up or when I craft at work and can't look like a disaster.)
Heres a project I have done using my cheap-o mists using a variety of techniques.

awesome tip!!! I read to make it with the new shimmery acrylic paint and water......it clogs up sooooo bad that it's unusable even when taking apart the pump and cleansing it thouroughly..........this is a much better recipe!

Fantastic! I just bought some of the little mister goodies. I also want to try it with watered down paints.
