Talk Tuesday 3.29 - Museums
Are you a museum person? Why or Why not?
What is your favorite museum?
What was the best exhibit/favorite thing you've seen?
What museums have you been to? Which are you dying to go to?

Re: Talk Tuesday 3.29 - Museums
I'm a total museum person--for so many reasons:
I'm happy when I surround myself with art and creativity
I'm a sucker for learning new things
I love seeing what other people find important
I can walk around for hours and no one things I'm weird
Most museums are great places to take pictures, sketch, or just write--all things that are so important to my personal creative process
I'm not sure if I have a single favorite museum...but here are a couple at the top of the list:
The Metropolitan Art Museum (NYC)
Moma (NYC)
Baltimore Aquarium
Liberty Science Center (Jersey City, NJ)
Museums offer such cool experiences, aside from the exhibits they have. Below is a picture of the Guggenheim museum, last August where Jeff and I went to see Andrew Bird in concert. The architecture of the museum--the audience standing along the outside helix--made for a unique concert experience.
There are still plenty of museums that I desperately want to visit. First on the list--the Louvre in Paris. There are also bunch of Smithsonian museums in DC that I missed when we visited in September. Which museums are you dying to get to?

wonderful prompt!
it made me think on a smaller scale though--the personal quality of the experience at the tiny jewel, the Ackland Art Museum, in Chapel HIll NC...
or the Kress Collection at Columbia, which is breathtaking...

I can't say that I have a favorite museum since the only ones I have been to outside of my own home town have been the Science & Industry and Natural History museums in Chicago and the Smithsonian museums in DC. My dream is to visit the Uffizi in Florence!

Re: Talk Tuesday 3.29 - Museums
I WAS a museum person when I lived in NY. Pretty much every field trip I ever took K-7 was to one of the amazing choices in the city.
The High museum in Atlanta is actually really nice I just don't make the time to go the way I should.
I love the feel of being surrounded by creativity and often genius. It just is such a soul inspiring place to be and I spend hours just wandering around. I walk up close I step back, I take pictures. Just luxuriate in the atmosphere.
Some of my favs-
The MET
Moma
Guggenheim
The Brooklyn Children's Museum
My favorite experience of all time was the Rings exhibit at the High Museum in Atlanta. 129 masterpieces from 39 countries to be arranged according to their expression of five emotions love, anguish, awe, triumph, and joy which are shared by all humanity across time and cultures. It was during the 96 Olympics and many of the pieces don't usually travel so it really was a once in a lifetime experience.
Rodins the Kiss, Edvard Munch's the Scream and so many more... I was in heaven.
I also was super moved when I say the Da Vinci exhibit and Tutankhamen.

I really enjoy visiting art museums when I am on trips and realized I enjoy going thru the museum on my own. I like stopping when I want, skipping what I want, etc. Its quiet ME time for me.
I also like some other museums, but art are my fav.
I have been so several, and I really like the Louvre because I love Napoleon's Apartments and the sculptures. I also loved the Musee D'Orsay in part because its more intimate and the building it is housed in is great.
Also my HS trip the Ringling with my AP European class has always stood out for me.

Re: Talk Tuesday 3.29 - Museums
I love museums, even more now that I have kids to enjoy them with.
The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago probably tops my list, but I also remember really enjoying the Smithsonian in DC when we went for my 8th grade trip.
We've slept at the Field Museum of Natural History twice now, but it's not really a fave. The Chicago Art Institute is amazing, although I haven't been there since '96 when I went to see Monet there. It's just such a peaceful, beautiful place to be.
