Snapshot Sunday - March Photography Tip
This month we will talk about composition. The biggest difference between a good picture and a great picture is the composition.
When we take a photo, we are able to decide what we place in the frame. We are also able to chose the viewpoint or where we place ourselves and the camera in relation to the object we are photographing. Also, if we are taking pictures of people or moveable objects we are also able to place them where we want.
There are many "rules" or guidelines to help you to compose a great shot.
One important rule to take a look at is the very popular Rule of Thirds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds
Another idea for composition is using diagonals. Placing your subject on a diagonal is a good way to add visual intrest to your photo. Even if it is an invisible diagonal, it can draw the eye between two points. Try moving around your subject to look for a diagonal.
Here is an example on using diagonals:

Good composition is first choosing the right viewpoint, then placing the subject where you want it in the frame and finally making sure that the cropping is to your liking, make sure that there is nothing unwanted at the edge of the picture.
I can't wait to see your practice shots as you work on improving your composition in your photographs! Feel free to share any shots or ideas you have here.
