A quick, cheap and simple way to catalog your wood mounted and acrylic stamps.

Items needed:
  • 3 ring binder
computer paper or 8.5 x 11 card stock
    Black ink
    Hole punch
Your out of control stamp collection!

If your wood mounted stamp collection is anything like mine than you have drawers and drawers crammed full and you hardly remember what you actually have half of the time! After having to take all of my drawers out every time I wanted to make a card or use a stamp on a layout or altered item I finally got fed up enough with the searching and restuffing and came up with this extremely simple and best of all wallet friendly method of cataloging my beloved stamps!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

You can either go to your local Wal-Mart, dollar tree or craft store and pick up a plain three ring binder or use one that you have around your house.
All you have to do is print out topics as a way to sort your stamps into.

For my collection I have:

  • Baby/pregnancy
    Birthday/General parties
    Christmas/Holidays
    Designs
    Easter
    Fall/Winter
    Flowers
    Halloween
    Invitation
    Sayings
    Spring/summer
    Thanksgiving
    Thank you
    Valentines
    Wedding

But you can modify it in any way to make it fit your needs!

Once you are through with printing out your categories you need to hole punch them and insert them in your three ring binder.
All you have left to do now is ink and stamp your images on every page that they belong! (this is what takes just a little bit but I swear its so worth it!)
Once you are through with this if you choose you can put your stamps back where you keep them in the order that they appear in your catalog!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Now any time that you have to make a Halloween card last minute you can simply grab your catalog and decide which stamps you want to use with out having to dig around for 30 minutes and then not remember that prized stamp that you bought 6 months ago that would have been so much better for the card than the one you settled on!

For all of you souper girls that need to get your stamp collection in order for the new year, this one is for you! So grab your coffee, dust that new year confetti off of your shoulders, pull out those heaps of wood mounted beauties, take a deep breath, dig in and let these tips make your organization process that much easier!

We will award 10 bonus points to ONE challenge participate based on a random drawing.

Hope you can play along with all of us tonight and thank you for coming to the Creative Soup Launch party!.

I started a binder like this several years ago but didn't keep it up. I have a lot of SU sets and I also added the set name under each stamp. This was because I would have one stamp in more than one category.

This is a great idea. But I only have a few stamps and I hardly ever stamp. But I do something similar with my punches.

okay self confessed stamp whore here, but wooden wise i think i can manage to organize them like this....so is organizing them ..the challenge ? then share with the rest of the class ?
by the way, loveeeee those little stockings & shoes in Halloween uber cuteness
i organize my cuttlebug embossing folders by similiar way , but i cut off the top of the packaging so you can still read what the name is & save the part on the back which shows you which one it is...but it's all stuck together in my notebook....punchies i think i might have to re catagorize them (as i've got lots more lately)

I did actually start this and then gave up as I have soooooooo many stamps. But it is a totally brilliant idea and I really should go back and finish it one day!

I unmounted all of my rubber stamps (well most of them i still have some I haven't gotten to now that I don't stamp much anymore) so I could fit them into 3 ring binders.

I really need to bust them out more to use on layouts! Thanks for the challenge Sara!

I know where you are coming from ! This what just a tiny glimpse of my collection and its still hard to manage sometimes!
Yes all you have to do (Im saying this like its a piece of cake lol) is follow the directions for creating the book or binder and stamp your images onto the correct pages. You do not have to put them all back in a different manner if you already have a storage method but it helped me to have them stored in a way that related to my binder.

Once you are through with all oF that just post a few photos of your book or binder and maybe some stamp eye candy and you are entered into the drawing FOR 10 BONUS POINTS!

I know how you feel! I still have a pile of new ones that I have to get done. I remember when I first started organizing this way, it took an entire day because I was the one trying to figure how to go about doing it etc. Lots of coffee got consumed that day. great idea!

I use something similar to your binder.
(also) I store my wooden stamps in a clear over the door plastic shoe organizer, too--so you can see them and they are divided just like the binder.
I used to have them separated by size in MM clear jars, but it was too much trouble getting my hand in and out of the jars.

I love the over the door hangers as well. I use those for my punches! I have yet to find a storage method of stamps that I love but my plastic drawers are working just fine for now. Ever since I cataloged them my life has been worlds easier!
