1.13 Thrifty Thursday - Card Sentiments
I like to make cards using my left over scraps, but too often I struggle with the sentiment. I am not a great stamper. I tend to mess them up. And stamp sets are not cheap, and I get bored with the one stamp I bought. Plus I never seem to have the color ink I want.
Well today I have an easy little idea for you - printing your own sheet of card sentiments. **IF YOU DON'T MAKE CARDS - this can still be a great technique for printing date labels, journaling spots, etc. **
What is great about making your own sentiments is:
A few basic HOW-TO's:
Here is a quick shot of a card I made using a printed sentiment. I made a black circle and used white text to get this look (this image is included in the file I linked up above). I printed it onto a light cream card stock so it would match my October Afternoon papers.
(I will share these fonts with you this month as well in Font Friday)
Well today I have an easy little idea for you - printing your own sheet of card sentiments. **IF YOU DON'T MAKE CARDS - this can still be a great technique for printing date labels, journaling spots, etc. **
What is great about making your own sentiments is:
- You can make them in any size or color you want
- You can download free fonts so you can change up the look from elegant to masculine to playful depending on the card you are making
- Its easy to add basic shapes around your sentiment using shapes in PowerPoint (or Open Office, a FREE version of MS Office)
- If you pre-print a sheet or two then you have a sentiment ready for those last minute cards
- The only cost is the ink and piece of card stock
A few basic HOW-TO's:
- Open up a new file in PowerPoint, Open Office (presentation document) or Photoshop (8.5 by 11)... If you don't have any of these software programs, I highly recommend Open Office. Its a free software that you can download and install, and comes with several programs similar to MS Office programs.
- Type out your sentiments. Play with the size, color, and fonts. Even if you don't have a color printer you can see get a lot of different looks.
- Try adding shapes around your sentiments for a fancier look, such as circles, stars, or "tags" from digi kits.
- Print out your sheet(s) of sentiments onto card stock and cut out. You can try using circle punches to make it faster to cut out the circle shapes.
- Feeling lazy? I made a very simple sheet for you using free fonts and basic shapes. You can get the file here.

I love to do this because even when I stamp I stamp crooked.
I hadn't thought to add the shapes though. Great idea!

This is a great idea, Bree!
Awhile ago, I found an Excel file of sentiments on SplitCoast Stampers website. I saved it to my Google Docs. You can access the file here.
