May I Vent?
I'm in my first 90 days at my job, which means I have no PTO (paid time off) available to use. I found out from my boss today that we must use PTO for snow days OR (for those of us without PTO) take the days unpaid. The longer this snow crap goes on, the less likely I am to be able to pay my bills this month. It certainly takes all the fun out of the snow ... all I'm doing is crying and stressing out, especially since they're now saying that we may be snowed in until Friday . Thanks for letting me vent.
Re: May I Vent?
Please take a look at state laws. I believe that since your company closed today, making it so you CAN'T go to work they are required to pay you still.
At least that is the policy here.

Re: May I Vent?
I find that very hard to believe {Laura}... Like Kim said if they close the office then how can they ask you to use personal time?
And I seriously can't believe this will go until Friday???

Re: May I Vent?
I mean the more I think about this the most mad I get. Are you seriously telling me lots of their employees will go without pay or lose vacation? Because I bet a lot of them used all their vacation for the holidays. This can not be right given the INSANE weather conditions.
Do you work for the government or a private company? I thought government?

Re: May I Vent?
Laura I just looked the weather forecast says no snow really tomorrow and NONE Wed-Friday. They will clear and salt the roads tomorrow so at worst you should be out tomorrow.
Re: May I Vent?
I now work for a private company that contracts with the state to provide mental health services. The problem with what Kim said is that the entire company wasn't closed because it runs all the hospitals (regular and one psych hospital) in this area. I was told that I could work today if I could get to the psych hospital even though my office was closed. But I'd have ended up in a ditch if I tried, which would be a much bigger mess than not being paid.
Thanks for the support, y'all. I hate to be a whiner because I know others have it much worse, but I'm so frustrated with the situation.

Re: May I Vent?
You should be frustrated! its not YOUR fault, and the roads in many areas were closed. If you had driven just because they pressured you to and you got in an accident you could have sued them. I mean seriously.
But I really think you will be fine by Wed. You can look up road conditions online tomorrow. I am guessing I will be able to go in tomorrow afternoon or Wed morning.

I've never heard this before. I was always required to use vacation time if we closed. and we were a union shop.KimL141 wrote:Please take a look at state laws. I believe that since your company closed today, making it so you CAN'T go to work they are required to pay you still.

Re: May I Vent?
awww {L} That totally sucks! Im so sorry they have that policy and can only imagine how frustrating it must be. The good news is there isn't supposed to be any additional accumulation and DOT is working around the clock to get everything cleared off so hopefully you should be go by at least tomorrow late morning!
Re: May I Vent?
That really sucks, Laura! I hope you can get to work (safely!) tomorrow!
