Wow that is just nuts! Hope you are all hunkered down!
Re: Inclement Weather...
Hey Kim...you might want to check the flights. Most are canceled or severely behind schedule!
Re: Inclement Weather...
Kristine, they flew in this morning and are home now. Now, I am just waiting for my husband to get out of work and home, then I'll be all done worrying. They cancelled school for me tonight. They say we are getting at least 16". I went gricery shopping this weekend, we rented movies last night, now let's get snowed in!!!!

So glad your Mom is home safely, Kim!
6 inches later, Scott got my car stuck backing out of our driveway on our way to an appt. with Kass. Appointment was cancelled and now he is....
snowblowing my car out of my front yard. Can't wait for the next 14 inches! lol

Re: Inclement Weather...
It's coming down fast and furious here. All the trains out of the city were PACKED this afternoon. I couldn't even get on my usual 2:30 train because it was too full. They added a train to handle the extra traffic this afternoon - everyone was hightailing it out of the city as early as they could! I can not tell you how happy I am that I got to take the train! Who knows how long it might have taken me if I had to drive it!
No school for me or the boys tomorrow. Poor Kris works from home, so he has to work no matter what I think I'll scrap while the boys sled They're saying 24 inches by tomorrow afternoon.
All the Soupers need to stay warm and safe!!

Re: Inclement Weather...
We have pouring down rain and super windy so just crappy. Traffic was a nightmare coming home. People in Atlanta can't even drive when it's cloudy (or sunny or breezy or dark or wet or dry well you get the idea). so tonight was just sucky.
Re: Inclement Weather...
I saw so many Nova Scotia and Ontario plates on the way home tonight... hundreds, all heading south. Folks running away from the snowstorm, I guess.
Hope no one gets ice from this storm.

Re: Inclement Weather...
Tom and I did make it home well ahead of the blizzard, thank goodness! (I was secretly wishing for a cancelled flight since it was supposed to be 75 and sunny in Tampa today and I realized that we were only an hour or so from Universal's Harry Potter park. )
I've spent the last five hours trying to catch up on all of my emails and read all of the new consultant info from thirty-one. Being snowed in gives me an excuse to stay home and read and do laundry tomorrow.

Re: Inclement Weather...
I got lucky today and got out of work 4 hours early due to low census. The roads were bad enough at 3:30. Would have hated to drive home at my usual 7:30. Also lucky for me I am not scheduled to work again until Sat.
We got about 5 inches last night and they are saying 10-16" more tonight and tomorrow. The winds are just howling. I took pics of our deck on the S side of the house and the driveway on the N for "before". When this is over I will take "after" shots. should be interesting. Just glad everyone is home tonight so I don't have anyone to worry about. Stay warm and safe everyone!

How is everyone faring this morning? Everything around here is shut down and today's snow has already started.
Re: Inclement Weather...
The main roads aren't too bad so Tom made it home okay this morning and Lou made it in to work where he says only 5 of the 50 or so employees are there. Side streets and rural roads are a mess so everyone is encouraged to stay home. The local news & weather has stayed on for live coverage and pre-empted to Today show.

All the schools are closed today (First time in 12 years for Chicago Public Schools) and they're telling everyone to just stay home. A few of the major expressways are closed and several of the train lines are not running. So glad I don't have to leave the house today!

Lou is thinking he will be headed home around noon unless they find work for him to do. He works in the shipping area and since no trucks are coming or going today, there isn't much going on in the shipping/receiving area! I'm just afraid that they will have him work in a different area since only 5 people showed up for work!
The mayor of the city just said that we have 15.9" as of 10am. He is doing a news conference right now, They are not declaring a state of emergency and they have 80% of the bus system running. We are less than an inch away from breaking the record for most snow fall in a 24-hour period that was set in 1978.

Here's the "Top 5 Chicago Snow Storms"
1. 23 inches Jan 26-27, 1967
2. 21.6 inches Jan 1 - 3, 1999
3. 19.2 inches Mar 25-26, 1930
4. 18.8 inches Jan 13-14, 1979
5. 17.0 inches Feb 1-2, 2011
It's still snowing, so we could get into the 4th place spot by the time this is all over. I was trying to explain to the boys that this might be the most snow they ever see. It's the most they've seen in their lives so far!

Tom still hasn't come in from snowblowing and shoveling. He's been out there almost four hours!

Oh, my!
Kris is out there right now and the snow is taller than the snowblower. I'm entertained just watching him!

Laura, I have been thinking about going out to stand by the snow just to see how high it is, but that would invlive me actually going out, so I still haven't done it!

I did step outside for a few minutes to get some pictures of the boys digging their tunnel. That was enough for me!
