Tim Holtz 12 tags of Christmas
Is anyone following along with this this year?
I've had fun playing along the last two years and plan to again this year. I don't always have the exact products that he uses but the techniques at least jump-start my creativity to try to get the "look" using what I have on hand. Smile

He always makes me giggle.

I glanced at it a couple times this year. I havent thought of making tags yet this season, so once I get back in that mood, I'll be over there checking out his techniques.

and now that i have an awesome ranger heating gun, I can do a lot more of the cool stuff.

Ive done the tag techniques in previous years (after Christmas when I have more free time) I love learning new ways to use the products I have. I am sure I will try some of the new stuff soon. LOVE getting messy!

I adore his tags and love seeing how he did them, but I don't ever actually make the entire tag. That said, this year's Christmas cards are modeled after one of his tags from last year. You'd think since I've been working on them for literally a year, that I'd be done with them by now, but nope!

I can totally believe you aren't done. Each tag has a gazillion and three steps I can see each card taking a month so if you have to do more than 10 no wonder you aren't finished yet Smile

This was my inspiration:

12 Tags of Christmas 6a00e39827d9ad88330128763a11df970c-800wi

Honestly I haven't even made one yet. I've gathered all the pieces, now for assembly. I don't do nearly the techniques he does, as I make about 80 cards every year. I simplify. Biggest project right now: Using my Dymo tape labeler to spell out "Making a List" and "Checking it twice" 80 times. Yippee. I have Kinko's print, cut, and fold my card base with my greeting inside ($14 for 100 card bases). Then I put together the fronts. This year it's a copy of "Santa Claus is coming to town" sheet music, a bit distressed (but printed at Kinko's, too). I'll ink the edges of the "sheet music" and it will be just smaller than the card base. Then I printed negative-type strips with pics of the kids in the photo spots. I'll staple those on. Then a (I think un-matted) current photo of the boys with santa with the label strips layered on top. See? MUCH simplified.

I think they would take way too long to make and I would get bored and discouraged half way through. But I love checking out the techniques he has used and using them on my layouts. But separately, not all at once so they take much less time and effort.

I would love to have the time to do the tags. I read about them every day. So many cool techniques. I did use one technique on a layout yesterday that he used for one of this year's tags...running plastic packaging through my Big Shot with and embossing folder. Very cool outcome!

Laura-I can't wait to see yours!

I love all of Tim's cards, I did pick up some of the Alcohol Inks and misters to try them out. There's no way, I'd get any of the tags done, but some of them have different techniques that I want to try out.

I love the misters and use them with the distress ink refills to make my own Mists. i actually want the new colors for Christmas along with a bigger mister holder.
