Talk Tuesday 3.22 - That's okay, I Think I'll Pass
Today's Talk Tuesday is about those fads that just pass us right by. I'm want you to list 5 different things that everyone seems to want, that you're totally okay with not having.
Try to think outside the box on this one; they don't necessarily have to be things you can buy

Money. ok well not money but some of the luxury things people buy with it that I totally don't get. Like expensive cars, shoes or purses that cost more than $20. lol
A Tan. Pale people look better in black.
A Relationship that is attached at the hip. I totally don't get relationships where the couple does everything together and calls each other multiple times a day.
Texting. Part of this is I don't have a texting plan (or a phone with a qwerty keypad) but I just don't get the need to be in constant immediate contact with people.
And this - Pantone's color of the year

being skinny - i want to be a healthy weight & look good in my clothing, but I have absolutely no desire to be skinny. being curvy is a wonderful thing!
that is all I've got for now...I'll have to think on this one some more.

1. Def reality TV...can't figure out the lure!
2. expensive shoes and purses - don't understand why shoes have to cost $200 and a Coach bag is a necessity! ...no offense to those who own one...my friend has 10! Ugh!
3. my big house...want a smaller one! too much cleaning and don't need it!
4. drama in my life, especially all the bs in my neighborhood! Certainly puts a damper on a day.
5. fake boobies!

I have like 6 coach bags---its Jeff's mothers way of showing affection. Spend lots of money on something.
I do like them though--she actually has good taste in things.

Re: Talk Tuesday 3.22 - That's okay, I Think I'll Pass
ok, so here is my list...
I think I will pass on...
1) being skinny
2) telling everyone where i am every moment of the day on facebook
3) co-dependency
4) being my daughter's friend. I want to be their mother, love them and guide them to make good decisions. I want to enjoy them as only a mother can. I have enough friends.
5) working a job that doesn't fulfill me just to have lots of money.

Ohhh I want to add that one too. I totally don't get people who say their best friend is their 5 year old kid. Im like really??? What in the world (other than your uterus) can you possibly have in common with a 5 year old to make them your best friend???

I understand needing to see them, touch them, and hold them daily....BUT Mara I think ppl confuse that as their child being their friend KWIM????

I'll pass on designer anything. Does having a designer's name on something make it a better product or me a better person for owning it?
Tanning booths- I'll use "tan in a can" on my legs occassionally but I have no desire to give myself skin cancer just to have a so-called "healthy" glow!

Even worse jeggings in plus size! I was like, um NO... I will NOT be trying those on thank you.
Re: Talk Tuesday 3.22 - That's okay, I Think I'll Pass
I've been known to say that my 7yo is my best friend. Not b/c I tell her my deep, dark secrets, obviously, but b/c I genuinely ENJOY her company. I don't usually feel that way with my 10yo, sadly, so with Avery I think it's very refreshing!! I'm okay with her being my best friend Not to say that I won't parent her when it's necessary... I totally get what you're saying, Kate!! But, I can understand saying that your child is your best friend.

See I'm okay with those. I wear jeans underneath dresses all the time, and I wouldn't mind something a little less bulky, especially around the waist.
Now to just wear them with like a tshirt or something---not my thing; but I like the look of them underneath dresses:) As long as my butt is properly covered with my dress; I'm good.
Re: Talk Tuesday 3.22 - That's okay, I Think I'll Pass
You guys have already listed some GREAT ones!!!
Things I can (and do!) live without:
1. Tivo, DVR, etc. If I can't be there to watch it, or find it online or on OnDemand, then I don't need to watch it!
2. Starbucks. I just don't get it. I think McCafe drinks are just as yummy! I have never understood the Starbucks craze.
3. Stressing about getting your 3yo into the BEST private preschool. Does not compute for me.
4. The Apple "i" craze. I get that iPads are cool, and I wouldn't mind having one... but I don't get people who stand in line for these new products when they're released... especially the people who already HAVE all of the previous products? Like, if you already have 3 iPhones, do you really need to be the first person on your block to get the iPhone 4?? If you spent $500 on an iPad two months ago, why in God's name do you now need the updated version??? Total mystery to me!!
5. Big Weddings. With the popularity of Bridezilla-type shows, I'm even more perplexed when it comes to weddings. I got married in a courthouse, for free, with very little fuss... and the end result was EXACTLY the same as if I'd spent half a million dollars, had 500 guests, and released doves into the air at the end. I'm still married. I can't imagine dealing with the stress that comes along with planning a huge wedding. No thanks!!!

E~ I don't get the big wedding thing either! I watched my very strong sister unfold on the day of her wedding because her makeup artist was sick that day and the replacement put pink on her (she is a red head). Not for me!
Our five minute ceremony with a JP and 40 of our closest family and friends could never be out done with a big white gown & lots of flowers.

Re: Talk Tuesday 3.22 - That's okay, I Think I'll Pass
Nick was always afraid that one day I'd regret not having a big wedding. Ummm, no. If anything, with each year that passes, I'm MORE grateful for our small, no-frills ceremony.
I think it would be fabulous if weddings became a more personal, private event between the two people who are getting married. I don't know why you need 500 other people present to witness this. :giggle2:
I love the idea of a private ceremony and then throw a big party/reception later if you must celebrate with your loved ones. I hate the formality of big, church weddings. BLAH.
